Following a direct missile impact in Dimona, Meir Panim’s local branch sustained severe structural damage and is currently non-operational. Emergency food distribution is ongoing while assessment and rebuilding efforts are underway.

What happened

A missile strike in Dimona caused widespread damage across a residential neighborhood, displacing over 470 residents and damaging thousands of surrounding homes.

Meir Panim’s Dimona branch was directly impacted by shrapnel from the blast.

Initial entry into the building revealed:

Extensive shattered glass and metal debris throughout the facility

Structural instability across multiple areas

A dropped ceiling at risk of collapse

Further inspection confirmed significantly more severe damage than originally assessed.

Extent of damage

Subsequent evaluation identified critical infrastructure failure across the building:

The main dining hall ceiling is unstable and at risk of collapse

Electrical systems have been severely damaged and require full replacement

Plumbing infrastructure must be rebuilt

The central courtyard, used weekly for food distribution logistics, is structurally compromised

Offices, bathrooms, and an entire wing of the facility require complete gut renovation

Rebuilding process

At present, the streets in this area are completely closed off, the building is unsafe for use, and has been shut down indefinitely.

Rehabilitation of the Dimona branch will require a multi-phase reconstruction process, including:

Structural stabilization
Full demolition of unsafe interior sections
Rebuilding of electrical and plumbing systems
Reconstruction of kitchen and service areas
Restoration of the distribution courtyard and storage areas

Fundraising is required to:

Restore full kitchen capacity
Rebuild beautiful and dignified space for our Restaraunt-Style Soup Kitchen
Ensure operational efficiency for long-term use

Public infrastructure is under active assessment by:

Home Front Command
Municipal authorities
Utility providers

Rehabilitation of the Dimona branch will require a multi-phase reconstruction process, including:

Structural stabilization
Full demolition of unsafe interior sections
Rebuilding of electrical and plumbing systems
Reconstruction of kitchen and service areas
Restoration of the distribution courtyard and storage areas

As the building is municipally owned, and damage resulted from a wartime event:

Government assessors are expected to evaluate the site
Public funding may cover partial structural repair only

However, government support will not cover full restoration of the facility to its previous operational standard.

Rebuild beautiful and dignified space for our Restaraunt-Style Soup Kitchen
Ensure operational efficiency for long-term use

Rebuilding process

At this stage, full cost assessment is still in progress pending official evaluations.

However, funding is required across three immediate areas:

Daily catered meals
Distribution logistics
Temporary service infrastructure

Cleanup and stabilization

Debris removal
Structural safety measures
Initial repair work

Full reconstruction

Electrical and plumbing systems
Interior rebuild and equipment
Kitchen restoration
Distribution and storage infrastructure

Commitment

Meir Panim Dimona serves a vulnerable population that relies on daily access to food and support services.
Despite the loss of the facility, services have continued without interruption.
The objective is not only to restore the building, but to return it to a fully functional, high-capacity operation capable of meeting increased demand following the attack.
